It can be a jungle and complicated to navigate through dry food for our dogs. We are not experts in the field, and can only enrich you dog owners with the knowledge we have gathered over many years as dog owners. Dive into our thoughts here...

Canine nutrition

We know that if we feed the puppy properly, that is, provide it with the necessary nutrients to grow, we are on the right track to avoid both physical and mental issues.

It varies from dog to dog how high a protein level they can tolerate. If the dog has a high protein level, it can affect the other values such as vitamins, calcium, etc., and thus an imbalance in the body can occur. The symptoms can be that the dog becomes very hyperactive, has a low tolerance threshold = energy levels, as well as skin changes.

Older dogs whose internal organs, "the kidneys," are not functioning optimally should be mindful of the above.

The dosage of food varies quite a bit from dog to dog. I never give what’s on the feed bag, because it’s mostly way too much. Of course, it's good for the producer, as they sell more because we believe in what they recommend "unfortunately."

Especially when you have a family dog that is balanced, they don't require much. The stress levels are at rock bottom, and they are getting the sleep they need. Yes, and not to forget snacks and treats. We have encountered quite a few dogs with eating disorders over time. One has tried both this and that, and the dog doesn't have much of an appetite for food.

Our advice on nutrition

Just because the veterinarian sells a certain brand doesn't mean it's the best for your dog. 🧐

Talk to your breeder, as they probably have the answer to which feed you should use for your breed. 😉

Cheap dog food can be just as good as expensive food 😉

EU legislation fortunately ensures that ALL feed must contain ALL the necessary ingredients so that dogs can live completely normally on it.

️✅️ Every sensible
️✅️ Look at your dog "fat, thin"
✅️ Be careful not to be misled by Facebook groups
✅️ Think about your training
️✅️ Are you stressing the dog?

I have never found it complicated to feed our dogs. They are always hungry and maintain their shape. So we can go far with common sense, without being an expert on dog food.

Stress & Appetite

Unless it is ill, it is most often stress that affects the dog to such an extent that it refuses its food.

It can lead any dog owner down a rabbit hole, and here we think of dog owners constantly focusing on new food instead of considering why the dog is actually turning away from its food. One should look at the dog and consider why it is not thriving in the environment or training being offered. Stress has as much impact on dogs as it does on us - so pay attention to where it falters.

I have walked several hundred dogs in my life, and oh how I have analyzed many poops. If the dog farts a lot, it has likely been fed poor quality food several times. It's food that goes right through like a liter of water through a coffee bean.

If you have a dog that walks on the walls, then take a look at your food because maybe it's not the right food for your dog. 🙃
